Midea Dehumidifier CL Error Fix
Complete guide to resolve bucket full sensor issues. No technician needed.
Quick Reset Method
Detailed Troubleshooting Steps
Physical inspection: Remove the water bucket and inspect the float mechanism inside the compartment. The float should move freely up and down without sticking.
How to test: Unplug the dehumidifier. Access the float switch (usually located in the bucket compartment rear wall). Disconnect the wire harness from the switch. Set multimeter to continuity mode (Ω symbol).
- With float DOWN (bucket empty): Should show continuity (beep or near 0Ω)
- With float UP (bucket full): Should show NO continuity (OL or infinite resistance)
Check connections: Trace the float switch wiring back to the main control board. Look for loose connectors, corroded pins, or damaged wires. Reseat all connections firmly.
Board inspection: If wiring is good, the control board may have failed to process the float signal. Look for burnt components or water damage near the float switch connector on the PCB.
Replacement Parts Guide
If testing confirms a faulty float switch, order a Midea Float Switch Assembly or Water Level Sensor specific to your model number (check the label on the back of your unit).
Generic float switches work if OEM parts are unavailable. Search for “dehumidifier float switch 2-pin connector” on Amazon or eBay. Match these specs:
- Normally Closed (NC) or Normally Open (NO) configuration matching your original
- Similar physical size and mounting holes
- 2-wire connector (usually white plastic housing)
Cost: OEM: $25-40 | Generic: $10-20
When to Replace vs Repair
REPAIR if:
- Only the float switch is faulty ($15-40 part)
- Unit is less than 3 years old
- No other error codes present
- Compressor and fan operate normally
REPLACE THE UNIT if:
- Control board is damaged AND unit is out of warranty (board costs $80-150)
- You see ice on coils or hear compressor clicking (sealed system failure)
- Unit is over 5 years old and needs multiple repairs
- Repair costs exceed 50% of a new unit price
- Clean the bucket and float area weekly with mild soap
- Use distilled water in the bucket to prevent mineral buildup
- Ensure the unit sits level on the floor (use a bubble level)
- Check bucket alignment every time you empty it
- Run in continuous drain mode if available to avoid bucket issues
